We are seeking a detail-oriented and intellectually curious Senior Index Specialist to lead our Index Operations effort, supporting Research, Product Development and Portfolio Management at Bitwise. This role is ideal for someone who thrives in a data-driven environment, has a passion for markets, and is eager to contribute to the design, maintenance, and performance monitoring of index-based investment strategies in crypto.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Researching and developing new index concepts: This includes exploring new index concepts driven by client demand, market conditions, and investment trends.
  • Testing and compiling index methodologies: Compiling and backtesting index methodologies using tools like Python, Excel, SQL, and VBA to ensure robustness and accuracy.
  • Ongoing maintenance and enhancement of index methodologies: Ensuring existing index methodologies are up-to-date and incorporating the latest investment trends and regulatory developments, particularly in areas like sustainability and climate.
  • Conducting index policy research and consultations: Performing research related to index policies and participating in consultations with clients and internal teams.
  • Designing and maintaining internal systems to calculate and maintain indexes for benchmarking and quality control purposes.
  • Preparing analysis and materials for investment committee and client reportingCollaborate cross-functionally with trading, research, sales, operations, and compliance teams.
  • Consulting with the Institutional Sales Team.

Role Requirements:

  • 8+ years of experience in financial services, investment management, or crypto research, ideally as an analyst, strategist, or specialist. A deep familiarity with indexes and index-based strategies is preferred.
  • A strong understanding of and fascination with crypto. You are both excited about crypto’s potential and aware of its risks.
  • A broad-based understanding of investment processes in different asset classes (e.g. equity, digital assets, futures etc.), investment styles, thematic investing, and derivative strategies.
  • Detail-oriented, with an obsession on numerical accuracy. Strong data and quantitative skills.
  • Strong communication skills, both in writing and conversation. You can convey complex narratives and details with clarity and simplicity.

You're inclined to take ownership to get the best outcome but happy to transfer or share ownership with others. You’re proactive in pursuing what you want, take pride in your ability to communicate and connect with others, and are always looking to improve.
  • Bachelor not required but preferred.
