Gameplay Programmer Intern
Epic Games is on the lookout for dynamic interns to join our dev teams in 2024. Whether you work on Fortnite, Unreal Engine, or any of our other games, products, and services, you'll join a team that's pushing the limits of interactive entertainment.

ENGINEERING - SPECIAL PROJECTS
What We Do
The Special Projects team at Epic is responsible for executing high-impact projects that push the envelope to define the future of real-time graphics and gaming technology (The Matrix Awakens, Lumen in the Land of Nanite). In collaboration with the Unreal Engine team, we strive to put our technology and knowledge into the hands of users, empowering developers and content creators with the most powerful suite of real-time tools in the world.
What You'll Do
Epic Games Unreal Engine, Special Projects team is looking for a smart, creative Gameplay programmer Intern to join them in 2024. Joining this team means you’re motivated to seek solutions to problems and work with other developers to make positive changes to the Unreal Engine. The heart of this role is C++ programming and debugging Epic’s never-ending line of awesome creations, each with their own set of challenges.
Our Interns are given challenging projects over the work term, and are provided with a meaningful experience with high expectations for performance. If you want to build something Epic, this is the opportunity for you!
In this role, you will
- Implement, debug, and support gameplay functionality using C++ and Verse
- Use rapid prototyping while ensuring that strong architectural and algorithmic decisions are made
- Work closely with art and design to create and iterate on gameplay features
- Collaborate with Unreal Engine teams to help guide ongoing feature development
- Optimize and fix bugs in existing gameplay systems
- Contribute ideas toward all aspects of the game’s production and development
- Write robust, maintainable code
What we're looking for
- Strong C++ knowledge is a must
- Portfolio showcasing projects of gameplay coding utilizing C++
- Familiarity with Unreal Engine, UEFN and understanding of blueprints and Verse
- Passionate about game development and Epic Games products, specifically Fortnite
- Exceptional communication skills and experience working within a team
- Able to react and respond effectively to coding feedback
This internship has a flexible start date in 2024. Recruitment will be ongoing until teams find an ideal match.
