WHAT MAKES US EPIC?

At the core of Epic’s success are talented, passionate people. Epic prides itself on creating a collaborative, welcoming, and creative environment. Whether it’s building award-winning games or crafting engine technology that enables others to make visually stunning interactive experiences, we’re always innovating.

Being Epic means being a part of a team that continually strives to do right by our community and users. We’re constantly innovating to raise the bar of engine and game development.

ENGINEERING - EPIC GAMES SERVICES

What We Do

Driving the plug-in power behind Unreal Engine 5. We bridge connections for licensees and our own internal game teams to online services. This allows games like Fortnite to utilize a combination of platform online services as well as Epic’s own online services to build cross-platform online features. Login, parties, voice chat, matchmaking, purchasing, cloud storage, and analytics are just a few examples of online features that our Online Game Services team helps games utilize.

What You'll Do

As a member of the Identity team, you will craft high-performance online services at scale focused on authentication, authorization, and account management. Backend Engineers focus primarily on the platform API services and operating the infrastructure it runs on. Our highly collaborative environment focuses on quality, reliability, and usability. From design, implementation, and deployment, you'll be able to shape the services and features that drive the future of Identity in the Epic Games ecosystem.

In this role, you will

  • At Epic, engineers are empowered to get things done by assessing challenges, crafting solutions, and implementing them by writing distributed systems, primarily using Java, to handle large-scale challenges
  • Work with public cloud infrastructure like AWS to facilitate a fast-moving ecosystem, owning the entire lifecycle of services, including live operations and deployment while being flexible around the ambiguity of the problem space
  • Craft solutions using modern SQL and non-relational databases such as MongoDB, DynamoDB, and Redis
  • Collaborate effectively with producers, product owners, other engineers, cloud, infrastructure or DevOps teammates in healthy ways to ship solutions
  • Provide feedback and estimates on feature development (and other operational tasks) while owning the outcome/being accountable for the solutions built

What we're looking for

  • 3+ years of software engineering experience in developing online systems, with a solid background in writing distributed systems (REST/RPC/GraphQL) in large-scale environments and a proven track record of operating live services at scale.
  • Hands-on experience with Epic's tech stack, including Java, AWS, Redis, MongoDB, DynamoDB, Terraform, and implementing protocols such as OAuth2, OpenID Connect, and WebAuthn
  • Extensive experience working collaboratively with a team of engineers to solve large and ambiguous problems, with excellent communication skills to provide, solicit, and accept feedback constructively
  • Previous experience supporting identity, authentication, or account services at scale and collaborating with upstream mobile teams and engineers
  • A user-focused, friendly, pragmatic human with an innovative mindset, which are crucial traits for Epic's success and influences everything the company does

This role is open to multiple locations (including CA & WA).
