About the role:

The Payments Engineering team owns and operates multiple Payment offerings in Forter. While partially greenfield, several offerings are already gaining traction, some with the biggest e-commerce brands in the world. The Payment products enable our customers to optimize their payment completion rates, thus having a big impact on their bottom-line revenue. These products also require extremely high (>99.99%) availability and are sensitive to any kind of disruptions. Our goals are to continue with rapid development but ensure stability and resilience are top-notch.

We are looking for a Senior Engineering Manager to lead the Payments Engineering team.

What you'll be doing:

  • You want to lead 6 engineers on a new revenue stream for Forter

  • You’re looking to lead a backend-oriented team, focusing on the balance between stability & new feature offering

  • You want to join the Payments domain early when Forter is just expanding it

  • You want to lead and help develop top industry talent

  • You want to own systems that require >99.99% yearly availability.

What you'll be doing:

  • Be partially hands-on during your first year to know the systems in-depth

  • Lead and grow the Payments Engineering team (6 engineers and growing)

  • Help retain and hire top talent for the team

  • Ensuring our services are top quality and a source of pride for Forter

  • Take part in planning the roadmap for future technical investments in the domain

  • Work hand in hand with engineers to solve significant technical challenges

  • Collaborate with key stakeholders closely, ensuring tight alignment on our investments

What you'll need:

  • A strong backend engineering background and an aptitude for critical path systems (>5 years hands-on)

  • Experience as an EM (>3 years)

  • Experience working with strong software engineers, recruiting and retaining

  • A sharp sense of judging ROI (business value vs. effort) for technical investments

  • Excellent presentation and communication skills - can talk and explain at the right level of abstraction to different audiences

  • Fluent in written and spoken English

It'd be cool if you also:

  • Previous experience growing a secondary company business to big scale

  • Previous experience in the Payments or Fintech domains
