Senior Developer Experience Engineer
Forter
About the role:
Forter is looking for a Senior Software Engineer with broad experience building state-of-the-art services and systems and leading large efforts to join our Platform Engineering’s DevEx team.
How do you create a great developer experience and provide tools that help create an impact in the engineering organization? How can we pave the path to effectively develop and maintain an environment and tools that empower developers so that they’re able to take care of all engineering important aspects (e.g. providing a meaningful and extendable boilerplate)? These are the kinds of questions and challenges we tackle daily, because we believe that developer experience matters, and we are constantly looking to find better ways of doing things at Forter.
Our tech stack is Jenkins for CI (though we’re migrating to GitHub Actions), IaC for deployments using AWS CloudFormation and Terraform and we mostly code in Python and JavaScript.
About the team:
We believe that developer experience is about performance, innovation, scale readiness resulting in software quality, time to market, and productivity. We’re enabling over 300 developers and analysts to make hundreds of changes per day, in a frictionless manner, so they can focus on what matters to them.
The DevEx team’s mission is to empower all the engineers at Forter and make the right thing, the easy thing.
If you’re wondering what this mission looks like in a more concrete, daily form, here are some examples:
- Scale and maintain the infrastructure of a monorepo with hundreds of users and 14 million LoC
- Utilise, measure, and improve developer experience with frameworks such as DORA, SPACE, and DevEx
- Make developer's life better when they adopt ephemeral environments (local/remote/hybrid)
- Get developer code from the local machine to production as smoothly and quickly as possible
What you'll be doing:
- Design, build, and maintain the core developer tools used by all of Forter’s engineering teams
- Plan and conduct rollout of technical projects internal to the platform group and across teams/groups
- Contribute to complex development efforts while working closely with teammates and other individual contributors at Forter.
- Work with a variety of programming languages and platforms.
- Brainstorm features with technical product managers and your peers and guide decisions based on your knowledge of the codebase and experience
- Speak to our customers and gather feedback on how best to improve their experience.
What you'll need:
- Experience writing and maintaining frontend/backend systems using modern programming languages (i.e. Python, Go, Ruby, JavaScript/TypeScript)
- Experience working or building CI systems deployed across multiple, geographically distributed regions
- Hands-on experience managing and scaling developer tools
- Extensive experience working with public clouds (i.e. AWS, GCP, Azure)
